1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
1.1 Information You Provide Directly.
- Identity and Contact Data: name, mailing address, email address, phone number, date of birth, emergency
contact information.
- Enrollment and Academic Data: program selection, enrollment agreements, prior education history,
attendance records, grades, examination results, disciplinary records, and diplomas/certificates issued.
- Payment Data: billing address and payment method details, processed securely by Stripe; JIA does not
directly store full payment card numbers.
- Guardian/Co-Signer Data: for Students under eighteen (18), the name and contact information of a parent or
legal guardian.
- Student Content: photographs, videos, and written coursework submitted for grading, portfolio review, or
marketing purposes.
- Communications: records of correspondence with JIA staff, support inquiries, and survey/feedback responses.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically.
- Device and Usage Data: IP address, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, referring/exit pages,
and pages viewed, collected via server logs and similar technologies.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: JIA and its service providers use essential cookies, analytics pixels, and
baseline trackers to operate the Platform securely, evaluate usage, and remember preferences. Disabling
cookies via browser parameters may limit functional elements of the learning dashboard.
1.3 Information from Third Parties. We may receive information from third-party payment processors,
e-signature providers, our instructional partners (e.g., Academia De Orfebres), marketing platforms, and
publicly available sources.
2. HOW WE USE INFORMATION
We use the information described above to:
(a) process enrollment applications, tuition payments, and installment/subscription billing;
(b) deliver instructional content and administer coursework, grading, and diploma/certificate issuance;
(c) communicate with you regarding your enrollment, account, schedule changes, and billing;
(d) maintain required student records for academic monitoring and TWC recordkeeping compliance;
(e) operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Platform;
(f) market JIA's programs to prospective Students via standard communication streams, subject to opt-out
rights under the federal CAN-SPAM Act;
(g) showcase Student Content (subject to opt-out choices) in marketing materials, social media, and the
Platform;
(h) detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, safety incidents, and violations of these Terms; and
(i) comply with applicable law, legal process, and regulatory obligations.
3. HOW WE SHARE INFORMATION
We do not sell your personal information. We may share personal information with:
- Service Providers: payment processors, e-signature platforms, infrastructure hosting providers, and
messaging deployment applications acting solely on our behalf.
- Instructional Partners: third-party partners delivering specific diploma tracks (e.g., Academia De Orfebres),
limited to tracking parameters required to complete grading criteria.
- Regulatory and Accrediting Bodies: as required for compliance monitoring or official reporting under TWC
mandates.
- Professional Advisors: attorneys, accountants, and auditors, as needed.
- Legal and Safety Purposes: where required to comply with law, respond to legal process, or protect the rights,
property, or safety of JIA, its Students, staff, or the public.
- Business Transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
- With Your Consent: for any other purpose disclosed to you at the time of collection.
4. DATA SECURITY
JIA implements commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect
personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. Internal incident
response frameworks are built to align with Texas data breach notification duties outlined within Tex. Bus. &
Com. Code § 521.053, ensuring rapid assessment and timely disclosures if any breach threshold is reached.
However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and JIA cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. DATA RETENTION
We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Privacy Policy,
including to satisfy student transcript retention mandates mandated by state career school regulatory boards.
Official academic transcripts are stored on a permanent retention track unless state law or accrediting rules
specify otherwise.
6. YOUR CHOICES AND RIGHTS
6.1 Access and Correction. You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information JIA holds
about you by emailing info@jewelryinstitute.org.
6.2 Marketing Communications. You may opt out of promotional emails by using the unsubscribe link
embedded in such messages. You may not opt out of transactional or administrative communications relating to
your enrollment (e.g., billing updates, active schedule adjustments).
6.3 Student Content Opt-Out. You may withdraw consent for JIA's use of your Student Content in marketing
materials at any time by written notice to info@jewelryinstitute.org, without affecting the lawfulness of
processing performed prior to withdrawal.
6.4 State Privacy Rights. JIA scales its data handling workflows to comply with statutory updates, including the
Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), Tex. Bus. & Com. Code § 541.001 et seq. JIA does not sell
consumer data or process sensitive biographical components without explicit consent, and honors verification
requests where required under the law.
6.5 Children's Privacy. The Platform is not directed to children under thirteen (13), and JIA does not knowingly
collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, consistent with the
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
7. COOKIES AND TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
The Platform uses browser tracking mechanics as outlined in Section 1.2. Users can alter cookie tracking
behaviors directly within their native browser safety tabs.
8. THIRD-PARTY PAYMENT PROCESSOR DISCLOSURE
Payment information is transmitted directly to and managed by our secure payment vendor, Stripe. Their
corporate privacy policies and service terms dictate data preservation for transactions, and users are
encouraged to evaluate Stripe’s compliance pages directly.
9. INTERNATIONAL USERS
The Platform is intended for use by residents of the United States. If you access the Platform from outside the
United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws. JIA does not
currently represent that the Platform is appropriate or available for use in other jurisdictions.
10. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
JIA may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on the Platform with an
updated "Last Updated" date and, where required by law, communicated to enrolled Students via email.
